Capitalist crisis in the “age of global value chains”

In this article, we analyze the strategies, surprises, and sidesteps in World Bank’s 2020 Development Report, Trading for Age of Global Value Chains. Strategically, Report promotes an expansion neoliberal globalization couched language global value chains. Curiously detached from broader academic literature on chains international trade, it a sequentialist vision chain upgrading that evokes stagism classic modernization theory. The authors sidestep important issues, such as China's pivotal role landscape are largely silent others, including climate change. Significantly somewhat surprisingly, given general endorsement integration, acknowledges negative distributional trends associated with rise chains, excessive benefits reaped by “superstar firms” now well-documented decline labor's income share.
